A 14-year-old boy appeared in court today charged with attempted murder.
The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is charged in connection with an incident in Middleton Street, Aylestone, Leicester, in the early hours of Friday, which left a 27-year-old man critically injured.
The boy is also charged with robbing the same man, and with possession of an offensive weapon during the same incident.
Prosecutor Sally Cook told Leicester Youth Court the man was stabbed nine times in the incident, and his mobile phone was taken.
She said the attack happened at about 4.15am, as the man made his way to work at a McDonald's restaurant, where he was due to start at 5am.
No pleas were entered during the hearing.
The 14-year-old was remanded into custody. He is due to appear at Leicester Crown Court on March 20.
Two other boys, aged 13 and 15, who were arrested in connection with the incident, have been charged with robbing the injured man. They also cannot be named for legal reasons.
The two boys are due to appear at the youth court on March 10.
Two girls aged 14 and 13, who were also arrested in connection with the incident, have been released with no further action. A second 14-year-old girl remains on bail pending further inquiries.
The injured man remains in hospital.
