Man and teen appear in court charged with murdering Timothy Smith in Shepshed

Two people appeared in court today charged with murdering a man who was found with a fatal stab wound in a car in Shepshed.

Mark Law, 20, of Sandringham Rise, Shepshed, appeared at Leicester Magistrates' Court charged with the murder of Timothy Smith in Shepshed on Thursday.

A 17-year-old male, who cannot be named for legal reasons, also appeared in court also accused of murdering 45-year-old Mr Smith.

Neither of the defendants entered a plea and both were remanded in custody.

Chairman of the bench Jean Anderson referred the case to Leicester Crown Court.

Law is to be appear at Leicester Crown Court on April 18.

The teenager is due to appear before Leicester Crown Court tomorrow to make an application for bail.

Mr Smith, who is originally from Oxfordshire but had moved to Tamworth, was found in a silver Ford Focus on an industrial estate off Gelders Hall Road at about 9pm on Thursday.

A post-mortem examination later determined he had died as a result of a stab wound.

Mr Smith's father paid tribute to his son.

Derick Smith, 66, who lives in Oxfordshire, said: "Tim was a very kind, thoughtful and caring son and I cannot adequately express in words how deeply shocked and saddened I am to learn of his death.

"He was a thoroughly good-hearted person.

"He was kind and thoughtful and tried to do his best in every aspect of his life."

"Tim loved his mother dearly and was extremely upset when she died last year.

"Since her death, we have been in regular contact, even though he was living in Staffordshire.

"News that he too now has gone is so desperately and deeply sad for us all."
