The jury in the trial of a football team manager, accused of attacking a linesman, has retired to consider the verdict.

The jurors, who were sent home overnight before reaching a verdict, were due to resume deliberations this morning, at Leicester Crown Court.

Joshua Dixon (23), of Woodbank, Glen Parva, who manages Phoenix United, denies causing actual bodily harm to Jim Hawkes, 57, who was allegedly punched unconscious.

Dixon claimed he acted in self-defence, delivering a single blow, believing he was about to be assaulted.

The prosecution allege Dixon was the main aggressor after Mr Hawkes made an offside ruling which was objected to by the Phoenix side.

Phoenix were playing at their home ground - Kingfisher Youth Centre, Saffron Lane, Leicester - against the Oadby Owls, in a Leicester Sunday Alliance League match on March 15 last year, when the alleged incident happened.
