A burglar who broke into three houses and also stole two cars has appeared in court.

Wesley William Westbrook (32), pleaded guilty to breaking into a home on All Saints Road, Thurcaston, when a laptop computer, two digital cameras, a wallet, a purse and car keys were taken, on November 14.

He also admitted theft of a Saab car from outside the property.

Westbrook pleaded guilty to burglary at a house in Luke Jackson Way, Stanton under Bardon, when a laptop, a mobile phone, a television and vehicle keys were taken, along with a Mazda car, also on November 14.

Westbrook further admitted burglary at a premises in Curlew Close, Syston, when two laptops, a mobile phone, jewellery, a television, a bicycle and a wallet with cash were stolen on November 16.

Alan Murphy, prosecuting, said: "The burglaries were overnight break-ins of occupied premises to steal motor vehicles."

Defence counsel, Mara Silva-Romefort, said: "There were drug issues at the time which have since been worked upon."

Judge Robert Brown adjourned the hearing for an updated pre-sentence report, but said: "It's obviously going to be custody; it's just a question of how long."

Miss Silva-Romefort said: "Part of his mitigation is how drugs had been affecting him at that time and he's now clean of drugs.

"He's fully aware of what will be likely to happen to him when he is sentenced.

"These offences took place just before his last sentence, when he received a suspended sentence with drug rehabilitation last November and has made progress."

Judge Brown said: "He obviously wouldn't have received a suspended sentence on the last occasion if this court had known about these (offences) outstanding matters.

"The reality is the pre-sentence update goes to length and anything else I need to know about his drug rehabilitation programme."

Westbrook, of Linney Road, Beaumont Leys, Leicester, was remanded back into custody until Monday, when he is due to be sentenced.
